SPRING CAMP 2010
SPRING CAMP 2010
DAY 1 - 47 new and returning players hit the field on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Day 1 saw all positions work on fundamentals which concluded with a 1 on 1 session. There was a great vibe on the field as everyone was flying around trying to make a play. It is very evident that the hard work many of the players have put in during the off-season is paying off. Players will hit the field Saturday morning @ 11:00am
Practice Player of the Day - SB Riley Wilson - Ran some great routes, made a few tough catches during 1 on 1's
Notables:
- SB's Willam McGee & Riley Wilson both had shoe string catches during 1 on 1 's
- new comers DB Logan McMurty and DB Randon Friedle looked very good during drills - gr 9's Luke Trithart and Ryan Serbu also impressed with good technique
- All veterans seemed very focused throughout, setting a high tempo pace and leading by example.
DAY 2 - Practice #2 - The weather remained beautiful as the Redmen hit the field for the morning session. The same work ethic and intensity shown yesterday was displayed again from the Seniors. Practice finished with 2 OKLAHOMA drills going at the same time. Everyone seemed to enjoy the first real contact of the camp.
Practice Player of the Morning Session - DL Jaeger Sutherland - as a gr 9, displayed the ability to hang in there with Seniors during 1 on 1's and was impressive during Oklahoma.
Notables:
- Depth at runningback - Frass, Thauberger, Brightman, Rorke all working hard
- Positive attitude - seniors leading by example in a positive way - helping new players learn
- LB Dansereau biggest hit during Oklahoma drill
Practice #3 - With more team focused time the Offense and Defense were beginning to make strides. During Pass Skeleton and a mini-scrimmage to finish off practice, the Offense looked balanced and ready for Sunday's scrimmage.
Notables:
- QB Spencer Pawliw running the offense well. Hooking up with WR Riley Wilson on a number of occasions
- DB's Jelinski, McMurty, Friedle & Biram making some plays
- DE's Bodnar and Baumgartner providing speed on the ends
- A few injuries over the weekend - DB Geoff Davidson (hand), RB Tanner Brightman (shoulder) & WR Nathan Bailey (shoulder) are all sidelined for the scrimmage
DAY 3 - After review and a solid Pass skelly session to close out the morning practice the players were given a break before the scrimmage.
A beautiful sunday afternoon for parents and alumni to take in a game - fantastic weather all weekend. Players were set to play out a 40 play scrimmage, depending on a few factors. We ended up having played 50 at the players request as everyone seemed fresh.
The offense was firing on all cyclinders behind an impressive O-line anchored by Jeremy Zver, Mitch Nelson, Kyle Herom and Lucas Mcphee. The offense drove with ease for most of the afternnon despite the best efforts from the defense.
Highlights:
- RB's Frass, Thauberger and Rorke busted off nice runs inside and outside.
- QB Spencer Pawliw hooked up with SB Riley Wilson on a few occasions for TD's
- grade 9 WR Madison Nicol caught a deep one which capped a weekend that impressed all coaches with his routes and work ethic
- DB Ryan Serbu had a few nice tackles to protect the outside
- LB's Dustin Trudeau and Kyle Dansereau along with DL Brandon Bodnar & Stephen Baumgartner were active all afternoon
Overall a great weekend for Redmen Football, which kick started with a Steak Night Fundraiser (Our goals were met for this event!!!). All coaches were impressed with the attitudes & leadership of the veterans as well as the level of talent the grade 9's displayed.
